In photography as in life, I believe that the most important is not what we see but what is beyond. Photography is not to be understood but perceived. It is all about symbols. A symbol always transmit more than it seems, it is the representation of a concept without being the concept itself.
A symbols usually transmits a metaphysical, religious or sacred concepts, as it is a way to establish a link with a more subtle plan of manifestation. It brings to our consciousness a meaning which is not “readable” by the rational mind and reminds us what is the most important in life.
In traditional cultures the social life is organized around the Temple (whatever religion is it). Then the Academy, the University replaced the Temple as the meaningful place. Today our modern cities live at the rhythm of the “Mall”, which became the new Agora. Those new Temples have also their own idols…. as the one I shoot in the photography above, in a central street of Madrid, Spain.
