Namaste means “Hello” in India. Joining the palms of both hands is the traditional salutation which often comes with this word. It means something like “I salute you”, but it can also be interpreted as “I respect you”, something more than just a simple “welcome”.
India is one of those few countries, where people you don’t know will salute you with a deep and warm welcome. It is not just the gesture, nor the word itself- look at these eyes…. look at the light in these eyes…it really comes from the heart.
This opening of the heart, is something I see less and less in the so-called “Western civilization”. But elsewhere, it seems natural. It is not calculated, it is just… Human. Natural.
We do have a heart, don’t we, so why don’t we use it more often?
